I am Abena Afreeka, also known in my earlier professional journey as Joanie McCollum. Embracing my recovered name is part of my journey of healing and reclamation of my 'African' SELF. With over 35 years of experience as a seasoned psychotherapist, author, and Communications Coach, I bring both lived experience and clinical expertise to my practice.
Through Third Eye Insights, LLC, I help African American professionals, individuals, and families — as well as White professionals and allies — reclaim their inner strength, voice, and heal from the deep impacts of racialized trauma. My work as The Traumatized Traumatologist is rooted in authenticity, compassion, and clarity.
One of the key offerings within Third Eye Insights is my Communications Coaching Program. This program provides personalized 1:1 and group coaching experiences designed to help you unlock your power, transform your communication, and thrive beyond trauma. By providing practical tools and tailored guidance, I empower my clients to reclaim their voice and lead their lives with integrity and purpose.
As an author, my book Malcolm’s Mandate~Racism Non~Anonymous builds upon this mission by offering a bold and transformative framework for healing from racialized trauma. Inspired by Malcolm X’s vision of Black empowerment, Malcolm’s Mandate serves as both a guide and a call to action for those ready to embrace their journey of self-healing and growth.
Whether through my writings, my coaching programs, or the Racism Non-Anonymous community, I am dedicated to supporting you in reclaiming your power and voice, breaking free from emotional chains, and navigating life with purpose, resilience, and strength.

Many ask about the meaning behind my name — Afreeka. It’s more than a name; it’s a declaration of identity and liberation.
In the ancient Kemetic (Egyptian) language, ‘Ka’ means Spirit — the vital life force within. So A-Free-Ka translates to ‘A Free Spirit,’ representing the freedom and wholeness I embody and teach.
It reflects my own recovery journey: healing from racialized trauma, releasing inherited chains, and reclaiming the sacred freedom of voice and self. My name carries the essence of my work — guiding others to remember who they are and to rise in their own freedom.

Our coaching work is where communication meets recovery. This is not surface-level skill-building — it’s a guided process of remembering who you are, healing how you speak to yourself, and reclaiming your power to connect honestly with others.

➡️Master Assertive Communication
Learn express your needs and boundaries with clarity and compassion, creating relationships built on mutual respect instead of performance or silence.
➡️ Develop Emotional Intelligence
Strengthen your ability to read and regulate emotions — your own and others’ — so you can stay grounded even when conversations get charged.

➡️Manage Emotional Triggers
Use S.H.I.T. (Stress of the Human Intentional Type) awareness tools to pause, breathe, and respond from alignment rather than reaction.
➡️ Strengthen Self-Expression
Reclaim your authentic voice. Release fear, guilt, and the internalized messages that kept you quiet. Speak from confidence, not defense.
Malcolm’s Mandate: Racism Non-Anonymous is more than a book — it’s a manual for personal and collective recovery from racialized trauma.
Inspired by Malcolm X’s call to Knowledge of Self, it provides a step-by-step path for recognizing internalized oppression, practicing Self-CPR (Compassion, Patience, Forgiveness), and cultivating Internal Tranquility (IT).
This work complements everything offered through Third Eye Insights and Racism Non-Anonymous — the coaching, the RNA meetings, and your own private reflection. Each supports the same goal: reclaiming voice, power, and peace.

Ready to begin? Whether through the 15-week RNA Journey, Communications Coaching, or by reading Malcolm’s Mandate, your path to liberation starts the moment you say yes to your own healing.
